The house was built during the City's Railroad's Era in approximately 1897 and was not only a home but had an attached general mercantile store serving the workers at the American Lumber Company in the early 1900s. The 1,782 square foot main house was restored in 1989 with new electric, gas and water lines and has remained architecturally true. A 560 square foot sunroom that runs the length of the south side was added to support the south wall of the house. Each room of the house has ceilings of 10 to 11 feet and was built on its own foundation of granite boulders from the Sandia mountains with a door to the outside which was typical of the era. Most windows are original double hung and most interior walls are plaster on adobe. Original brass chandeliers and door plates were cleaned, polished and reused. One door opening to the front porch has an original lace etching in the glass with Victorian millwork around it. Hardwood floors are throughout the home with Saltillo tile in the sunroom. The roof has a deep pitch, high peak, gables, and a dormer. The porch columns are classical. The outside walls of the former mercantile store now give privacy. Gate and Driveway onto property is on the street Bellamah, as to not impede traffic on 12th street.
